Barton women open golf season with runner-up finish at Ottawa Invitational #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's golf team opened up their 2021 season with a runner-up placing Tuesday afternoon in the Ottawa Invitational held at Lawrence's Eagle Bend Golf Course.

The Cougars trailed by one headed to the final day as extreme wind conditions played havoc in the second round. Barton shot an opening 332 but fell further behind the lead with a 347 to finish 103 strokes above par for a 679. Iowa Western Community College won the title with a 648 while Park University placed third five strokes behind the Cougars with a 684.

Mathanee Pandee led three Cougars in the top ten of the forty-eight player field, placing 5th at 21-0ver 165. Pandee opened her season with a 77 for third place after the first round but carded an 88 on Tuesday in slipping two spots.

Paulina Villavicencio carded consistent 84-85 rounds in her Cougar debut for an 8th place tie at 25-over 169 with Mia Trousdale a stroke behind tied for 10th with a 83-87 rounds for a 170.

Barton begins conference action on Friday, March 26, at the Coffeyville Country Club. The Cougars tee off at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 9:00 a.m. start for Saturday's final round.
