Barton women's golf opens season with second place tie at Swede Invitational #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's golf team opened up their season this week with a second place finish in the two-day Swede Fall Invitational held at Salina Municipal Golf Course.

The Lady Cougars were alone in second place, two shots out of the lead, following Monday's round of 315 before closing out the Invitational with a 319 to slip into a tie for the second slot at a combined 74-over 634 with Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Bethany College won the team title out of ten squads as the hosts posted a four stroke win by accumulating a 70-over 630.

A trio of Cougars finished among the top ten of the fifty-one athlete field with Getsemani Carlos Lopez challenging for the lead just two strokes out after a 6-over 76 Monday round before slipping into a tie for 5th following an 8-over 78 to finish at 14-over 154.

Fellow sophomore Ady Crough improved two strokes from the opening round to card a 79 to place 9th overall at 20-over 160. Tied in the 10th spot was Mathanee Pandee following up a collegiate debut of 10-over 80 round with an 82 to finish 22-over 162.

Barton's next meet will comes Monday in McPherson, Kansas, as the Cougars compete in the two-day Central Kansas Classic at Turkey Creek Golf Course.
