Barton women capture Central Kansas Golf Classic #GoBarton
The Barton Community College women's golf team captured the weather shortened Central Kansas Classic today held the past two days at McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course. The Lady Cougars carded a 344 during Monday’s 15-25mph decreasing temperature afternoon, returning to the course on Tuesday to face 40 degree temperature as rain moved in to force the conclusion and wipe-out after eleven holes played. With Monday’s scorecard the official result, Barton had four individuals in the top eight in winning the title by eighteen strokes over runner-up Bethany College with the Lady Cougars’ Vilma Efraimsson capturing the individual title over teammate Mutita Booranakunamanee.

Having finished behind her teammate in the fall season's previous two tournament, Efraimsson battled Monday's weather in firing an amazing 4-over par 75 distancing Booranakunamanee and Bethany's Aspen Bryant by eight strokes as the two carded a 12-over 83.
Two additional Lady Cougars cracked the top ten of the thirty-nine member field as sophomores Lucia Rodriguez Zapico and Miranda Kern each recorded a 22-over 93 to finish tied for 8th. Kendra Jellison finished tied for the 21st spot at 28-over 99 as seventeen players exceeded the 100 score in less than ideal golfing conditions.
Barton entered a second squad of Lady Cougars scoring a 426 with Taylor Becker's 103 and Amy Akler's 104 finishing 26th and 28th respectively. Gracen Haar-Becker carded a 106 for 32nd, Delaney Smith's 113 placed 35th, and Sydney Kirmse finished one place behind with a 120.
The Lady Cougars' next meet comes Monday and Tuesday, October 23-24, as Barton heads to Tyler, Texas, for the Tyler Junior College Fall Invitational held at Pine Springs Golf Course.
