Barton women with final day charge places third at KWU Fall Invite #GoBarton
The Barton Community College women's golf team made a final day charge Tuesday at the Kansas Wesleyan University Fall Invitational to finish third in the nine team tournament. Concluding Monday’s round at the Salina Country Club with a 357 and in fifth place, the Lady Cougars shaved off twenty-one strokes for a 336 to catapult in the standings with three players finishing in the top fifteen of the forty-six player field.

For the second straight fall tournament, two Lady Cougars finished among the top ten as the freshman duo of Mutita Booranakunamanee and Vilma Efraimsson each fired final rounds of 78 to place ninth and tenth respectively. Booranakunamanee opened her tournament with an 86 and in ninth place while Efraimsson's 89 left her in 12th before moving up two spots on the final day.
Lucia Rodriguez Zapico moved up one spot in the final standings to 15th in taking off four strokes from her 91 Monday round with an 87 while Kendra Jellison went the opposite direction in the standings dropping eight spots with 91 and 93 scores for 22nd. Opening with a 99, Miranda Kern shaved off five strokes for a 94 in jumping two spots to 33rd.
Competing as an individual, Gracen Haar-Becker set a new collegiate best firing a 92 before Tuesday's 95 round left her in the overall standings at 26th.
The Lady Cougars' next meet will come next Monday and Tuesday, October 9-10, in the Central Kansas Invitational held at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.
Dodge City Community College earned the team title with a 678 total behind two Lady Conquistadors in the top three. Host Kansas Wesleyan, who bettered Barton by eighteen strokes three weeks ago at the Ottawa Invite, finished two strokes behind Dodge City and thirteen strokes ahead of the Lady Cougars.
Two former Lady Cougars were also entered into the Invitational with now Kansas Wesleyan's Mackenzie Fabrizius leading her Coyotes to the runner-up position finishing fifth individually with rounds of 80 and 79. Lea Clubb, now at Friends University, placed 34th overall with 103 and 92 rounds as her Falcons finished seventh as a team.
