Piddon's title not enough as Barton women's golf comes up short to begin spring season

For the second straight conference meet, the Barton Community College women's golf team couldn't hold on to its first day lead in finishing runner-up at the KJCCC No. 4 Meet held at Emporia's Municipal Golf Course.  Clinging to a three stroke advantage after Friday's first eighteen holes, Dodge City Community College turned the tide during Saturday's final nine holes with an eight stroke advantage to win by five strokes.  The Conquistadors finished with a combined 519 with the Lady Cougars at 524 to draw even with Barton in team conference victories while easily outdistancing Coffeyville Community College's 633.

Fourth ranked Peerada Piddon ran away with the individual medalist honors leading five Lady Cougars in the top-ten carding an opening 73 with Saturday's 37 to win by nine strokes at 110.  The victory was Piddon's second conference and third meet title of the season bringing her career total to five Jayhawk meet titles.

Dodge City would own the next three slots on the leaderboard as spring addition Kanyakorn Chothirunpanit made her Jayhawk debut with 79 and 40 rounds to finish runner-up at 199.  The consistent duo of Rachanok Rahulpan and Orakorn Thirayatorn helped lead the Conquistador charge firing closing day scores of 39 and 40 two finish at 121 and 124 respectively.

Barton took the fifth and sixth spots with Mackenzie Fabrizius leading the way with an opening 83 followed by a 45 on Saturday to finish at 128.  Miranda Kern matched Fabrizius team second best on Saturday with a 45 having opened with a 95 in placing sixth at 140.

Kendra Jellison posted consistent rounds of 97 and 49 to finish eighth at 146 with Janae Champlin competing as an individual placed tenth with at 153 carding rounds of 105 and 48.

Argentinian freshman Lucia Rodriguez Zapico got her first taste of conference play opening up with a 105 before settling in for a 51 on Saturday to finish with a 156.  Taylor Becker rounded out the Barton entries at 171 with rounds of 113 and 58
