Barton women's golf pulls away for second conference victory

The Barton Community College women's golf team pulled away for its second straight team title of the conference season this past Saturday at Coffeyville's Country Club Golf Course.   The Lady Cougars led by just fifteen strokes after the first eighteen holes on Friday before blitzing the course for the final nine in a forty-one stroke victory posting a combined 525 score to Dodge City Community College's runner-up 566.

The Lady Cougars placed all five of the team members in the top ten led by Peerada Piddon's runner-up 115 score.  Piddon, who led the tournament by two after an opening 76, fell into the second place spot despite shooting a 39 as Dodge City's Rachanok Rahulpan stormed ahead with a closing 36 to take the title.  The Conquistadors would also grab the third spot as Orakorn Thirayatorn carded a 38 after an opening 78 to finish one stroke behind Piddon at 116.

Mackenzie Fabrizius also had a solid Saturday morning round of 41 to go along with an opening 89 to sit solid in fourth place at 130.

A three way tie for the fifth spot dotted the leaderboard with Coffeyville's Jordan Lee and Bailey Bowman being joined by the Lady Cougars' Kendra Jellison.  Trailing the Coffeyville duo by five after day one with a 96, the Topeka freshman shot a team third best 43 on the final nine to jump into the three-way tie at 139.

Miranda Kern had a solid tournament to finish two strokes from fifth with a 95 and 46 to finish at 141 for the eighth spot.   Janae Champlin rounded out the Lady Cougar team with a tenth place finish at 159 with 104 and 55 rounds to finish seven strokes behind the Ravens' Cheyenne Musser in ninth.

Competing as individuals, Taylor Becker edged teammate Olivia Neuenswander by one stroke at 163 bouncing back from an opening 111 round with a 52 to edge Neuenswander's 108 and 56 rounds.

Barton will wrap up the fall season this upcoming Friday and Saturday as the Lady Cougars head to Dodge City's Mariah Hills Golf Course looking to clinch at least a share of the KJCCC title competing in the third of the season's six conference meets.  Tee time for Friday's eighteen holes set for 1:00 p.m. with Saturday's final nine holes set for 9:00 a.m.
