Barton women’s golf punches national ticket capturing fourth straight Region VI title
The Barton Community College women's golf team wrapped up its fourth straight Region VI title rolling to a twenty-five stroke victory after Saturday’s final round of the Region VI Championships. One day removed from perfect golf conditions, the playing field at Hutchinson's Carey Park Golf Course took on a stiff south wind as the Lady Cougars rode their twenty-six stroke lead into the final round carding a 339 for a thirty-six hole tournament total of 664. Conference co-champion Dodge City Community College played much better on the second day edging the Lady Cougars by one stroke finishing with a 689 while Coffeyville Community College stayed consistent with 373 and 375 rounds finishing with a 748.

The final leaderboard looked a lot like it did after the first day with Barton owning the top two spots with a total of five Lady Cougars finishing in the top-ten. Peerada Piddon fired a final round 6-over par 77 to lead the charge erasing a one stroke deficit behind teammate Leeseo Park with a two-day three stroke win of 152. Park, who carded the first ace in school history during Friday's round, wasn't far behind carding an 81 on the final eighteen for a 155 total remaining five strokes ahead of the Dodge City freshmen duo of Rachanok Rahulpan and Orakorn Thirayatorn's 160.
Like Piddon, the Conqs' Rahulpan also had a great final round firing a 78 to catch Thirayatorn's 81 round moving into a third place tie at 160. In the first of three playoff match ups to determine final placings, Rahulpan completed her day two comeback defeating Thirayatorn in a sudden death playoff to earn the third place distinction.
Tied for the fifth spot was the Lady Cougars' Mackenzie Fabrizius and Coffeyville's Julia Dierker as each had a different path ending up with an identical 175 total. Fabrizius stayed consistent through the two rounds carding an 87 and 88 while Dierker stormed back from an opening seventh place 90 round scoring an 85 going on to capture the playoff match to wind up her Region VI career with a fifth place finish.
Another playoff was needed to determine the seventh spot with Dodge City's Tiara Diaz coming out on top over Coffeyville' Cheyenne Musser. Diaz made her way to the 180 total roaring back from an opening 94 and outside the top ten with an 86 while Musser had twin 90 rounds in her two days of action.
Barton took the final two spots of ten national qualifiers as Bailey Gage's 89 and 93 added up to a ninth place 182 score while Daleen Turner grabbed the tenth spot with a 185. Turner, who competed as an individual, dropped three spots from day one but the Cheney freshman's opening round of 90 helped offset a slightly higher final round of 95.
Having won the last two conference meets to tie Dodge City for the conference title, the Lady Cougars now own both the conference and region crowns for the fourth straight year. Finishing in the nation's top-ten the past two seasons, Barton will shoot for another high finish competing at the 2016 NJCAA Women's Golf Championship May 16-19 in Daytona Beach, Florida, held at the LPGA International Golf Course.
