Streaks come to an end, Lady Cougar golf takes first conference loss in two years

The Barton Community College women's golf team had its nine straight conference winning streak snapped Monday in Dodge City as the Lady Cougars fell by seven strokes in the second KJCCC Meet of the season.   Trailing by one after Sunday's nine holes, Barton couldn't make the needed eighteen hole charge to catch host Dodge City Community College as the Conquistadors protected its home Mariah Hills Golf Course with a 515 to the Cougars' 522.  Coffeyville Community College came in third at 572 in the three-team conference meet.

Another long winning streak also came tumbling down as for the first time in eleven conference meets a Lady Cougar did not win the individual title.   Orakorn Thirayatorn, one of two Dodge City freshmen from Thailand, broke up Barton's streak of ten straight individual titles outdueling Lady Cougar freshman and fellow Thailand countryman Peerada Piddon 118 to 119.  Thirayatorn gained the one stroke advantage firing a 41 on the opening day as the duo both carded a final round 77.  Piddon took the first conference meet title by five strokes over the Conquistadors' other Thailand freshman Rachanok Rahulpan back on September 29 on Barton's home course.

Barton's individual title streak began in the 2013 season when Kaylee Crawford won the fourth conference meet of the year.  Maddie Sherman followed with the next conference victory before Natthakan Teeratrakul won the next seven titles including all six in the 2014 campaign.

South Korean freshman Leeseo Park, who shot a meet best 39 on the opening day, gave the Lady Cougars the second and third spots individually holding off Rahulpan by one stroke despite shooting a final round 82 for a 121 total.

Finishing fifth for the second straight meet, Julia Dierker again led Coffeyville with a 128 finishing one stroke ahead of Dodge City's Tiara Diaz and four strokes better than teammate Karah Bassett.

Natalie Fish carded a 48-94 for an eighth place 142 finish with Mackenzie Fabrizius and Bailey Gage tying for the final tenth spot at 146 behind Coffeyville's Cheyenne Musser's 143.   Fabrizius had rounds of 47 and 99 while Gage bounced back from a first round 53 carding a final round 93 to move into the top ten.

Daleen Turner led the two Barton individual entries with a 153 while Taylor Overlees finished with a 164.

Barton's next opportunity to begin a new streak will come Sunday and Monday, October 11-12, as the Lady Cougars travel to Coffeyville, Kansas, for KJCCC Meet No. 3 held at the Coffeyville Country Club.
