Young Lady Cougar golf team opens 2015 season with second place finish
The Barton Community College women's golf team opened up its 2015-16 season the last couple of days finishing second in the Central Kansas Classic. Held in windy conditions at McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course, the all-freshman Lady Cougar team finished runner-up to top-five nationally ranked Redlands Community College but distancing fellow Jayhawk member Dodge City Community College. Barton finished with a 725 (+157), fifty-two strokes behind Redlands and twenty-six strokes ahead of Dodge City.

The Lady Cougars placed three in the top ten led by Peerada Piddon giving a run at the title but falling four strokes out. Piddon opened up with an 81 followed by an 82 finishing her first collegiate tournament 163 (+21). Leeseo Park shot an opening 84 but followed with a 91 on the second day of action finishing tied for seventh at 175 (+33). Natalie Fish improved her 98 from day one carding a 94 grabbing the tenth spot at 192 (+50).
Finishing just three shots behind Fish in 11th place, Bailey Gage also improved on day two shooting a 99 and 96 to total 195 (+153). Taylor Overlees opened with a solid 95 but a tough second day round 107 wrapped up her collegiate debut with a 202 (+60) to tie for 14th place. Making the largest improvement on the second day, Mackenzie Fabrizius bounced back from a 112 shaving off fourteen strokes for a final round 98 coming in at 18th with a 210 (+68).
Barton's next meet will come September 28-29 in the KJCCC Meet No. 1 held at Great Bend's StoneRidge Golf Course as the Lady Cougars begin their quest for a fourth straight conference championship.
