Barton Women's Golf finishes in nation's top ten for second straight year

For the second straight year the Barton Community College women's golf team finished in the nation's top ten wrapping up play Thursday at the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championship at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.  Moving into the tenth spot on Wednesday, the Lady Cougars played through windy conditions in the final round getting a clutch birdie on the final hole shooting a 353 to hold off Sandhills Community College by one stroke.  The top ten finish capped a conference and region championship season and followed last season's school record ninth place while matching the accomplishment of the 2006 squad.

With Sandhills and the Lady Cougars tied up going into the final hole, Natthakan Teeratrakul laced a 3-wood to the par-5 ninth and final hole then lipped out the eagle putt tapping in for birdie giving Barton the one stroke lead.   Finishing as an All-American with her 18th placing last season, Teeratrakul's 40-42 for a +10 82 didn't move into a repeat status position but did end the stellar career of the Thailand sophomore on a high note coming in at 24th place in the nation.

Closing out a phenominal freshman season Hye Rin Kim slipped six spots in the overall standings to 40th but carded her fourth straight round under 90 with a 45-43 +16 88.  

Saving her best round for the last day, Madison Walden leap frogged fellow sophomore Abbie Thelen for 79th place firing a 41 on the first nine and closing with a 48 to finish +17 on the day with the 89.  Thelen meanwhile couldn't shake a six straight hole bogey streak carding a 46 before closing with a 48 to finish 80th with a +22 94.  Madison Werth also had final nine problems following a 51 with a 53 ending up her sophomore season with a +32 on the day carding a 104 dropping one spot in the standings to 96th.
