Lady Cougar golf assumes command on day one of home conference meet

The Barton Community College women's golf team has jumped out to a commanding forty-six stroke lead after the first eighteen holes of the KJCCC Meet No. 5 being held at StoneRidge Golf Club in Great Bend, Kansas.  The Lady Cougars shot a team score of 331 through eighteen holes with six players in the top ten to lead second place Dodge City Community College's 377 heading into Tuesday's final nine hole round beginning at 9:00 a.m.

With Barton in command of the team title, a battle looms for the top individual spot as Barton's Natthakan Teeratrakul and Coffeyville Community College's Julia Dierker continue their season long duel for the individual title.  Teeratrakul holds a slim one stroke lead firing a 77 but Dierker carried the momentum to the clubhouse having made up three strokes in the final four holes in a quest to break Teeratrakul's school record fifth straight conference win dating back to last season.

Only three strokes out from first place, freshman Hye Rin Kim's 80 leads two other Lady Cougars breaking 90 as Madison Walden carded an 86 and Great Bend's Madison Werth shot an 88 while recording her first career Eagle having dropped in a fifty-yard approach on hole No. 7.   Abbie Thelen was the low score in the team entries thanks to a double-bogey slip up on the final hole to finish at 90.

Barton had two individuals competing led by the improving Lea Clubb taking six strokes off her last meet to finish with a 92 while Presley Smith shaved off seven strokes to card a 109.
