Barton women’s golf team holds steady in eleventh place after second day of NJCAA National Championships

The Region VI Champion Barton Community College women's golf team held steady in Tuesday's second round play at the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championship held at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.  Shooting a 361 to open the tournament, the Lady Cougars came in three strokes over Monday's score to fall further behind for 9th place but only two strokes out of 10th. 

Hye Rin Kim made a charge up the leaderboard leading the Lady Cougars on day two firing a +9 81.  The freshman opened the front nine with a 42 before birdies on two of her last four holes led to a closing 39 moving up eight spots in the standings to 35th.  Natthakan Teeratrakul, who opened with an 81, fought off a triple bogey in the first nine wrapping up her round with a birdie to card a 43-42 as her 85 round tumbled her six spots to a tie for 29th.

Abbie Thelen had a rough start to the day finding herself +9 after four holes managing only three pars the rest of the day posting a 50-51 dropping into an 86th place tie.  Tied with Thelen after day one, Madison Walden also had a rough start beginning the round +5 on the opening hole carding a birdie on the eighth and parring the ninth to match Thelen's 50 score.  However the back nine would yield simply a par on the twelfth in a tough 53 falling to 89th place. Madison Werth made the big improvement for the Lady Cougars shaving off twelve strokes as her consistent 49-48 round of 97 not only helped the team score but moved up to 92nd place. 

Having Tuesday's afternoon tee times, the Lady Cougars will have a short turnaround time getting back on the links Wednesday for a 9:00 a.m. Central Time back nine tee off.
