Lady Cougar golf team in control after day one of Region VI Championships
The Barton Community College women’s golf team leads by forty-three strokes after Monday’s first round of the Region VI Championships taking place at Hutchinson’s Carey Park Golf Course. In high wind conditions, Barton shot a team score of 366 through the first eighteen holes to lead second place Colby Community College’s 409 as conference co-champion Dodge City Community College did not field a complete team. The Lady Cougars, who won the last two conference meets to Dodge City for the conference title, are seeking their second straight trip to the NJCAA Division I Championships if able to hold the lead. Play resumes on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with a final round of eighteen holes.

Barton's Natthakan Teeratrakul, who won the last conference meet for her second title of the season, sits tied in fifth place with fellow Lady Cougars Kara Koepplin and Blakelee Cooper after each fired a 91. Kaylee Crawford and Abbie Thelen each posted a 92 to sit in a tie for eight while Madison Walden's 95 for tenth place rounds out six Lady Cougars currently in the top ten individual standings.
