Lady Cougar golf falls short in final day, take second to wrap up fall season

The Barton Community College women's golf team finished second in the conference's final meet of the fall season earlier this week at the Coffeyville Country Club.  Playing their second tournament within three days, the Lady Cougars were tied with eventual winner Dodge City Community College after the first eighteen holes but couldn't overtake the Conquistadors on the final nine.  Dodge City went on to win the tournament with a 541 with Barton finishing eleven strokes back at 552 followed by Coffeyville Community College's 626.  Four Barton golfers cracked the top ten, three coming from the team entries and one from individuals.  The meet wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule with Dodge City winning the last two of the three meets after Barton captured the first.  The Lady Cougars will resume competitive play March 30, 2014, when Barton hosts the fourth conference meet at The Club at StoneRidge Golf Course in Great Bend, Kansas.

After winning the first meet of the season, freshman Natthakan Teeratrakul finished second for the second straight conference meet with a 129, six strokes behind Dodge City's Annie Sheridan.  Sophomore Maddie Sherman was consistent in her rounds to finish fourth with a 134 while Abbie Thelen's 138 tied for sixth.  Blakelee Cooper and Kara Koepplin struggled in the first eighteen holes but rebounded with stronger second day nine hole scores to finish with a 151 and 157 respectively.

Kaylee Crawford continued her strong play this fall season shooting a 132 to finish in 3rd place to lead the Lady Cougars competing as individuals.  Like Cooper and Koepplin, Madison Walden also had a tough first day but shot a 44 on the final nine to finish with a 150.  Lindsey Placke rounded out the Barton entries by shooting a 96 on day one but struggled in the final nine to match Walden's 150 score.
