Barton's Onugha named KJCCC and NJCAA Player of the Week #GoBarton
Barton’s Onugha named KJCCC and NJCAA Player of the Week.
Vivian Onugha of the Barton Community College women's basketball team has not only been named the conference but the national Player of the Week.
The KJCCC Week 9 honor is Onugha's second conference weekly award having earned the Week 15 distinction in the closing week of her freshman season.
Onugha drew the attention this week of the NJCAA voting committee following a program record and pair of games averaging 18 points and 24.5 rebounds in 36.5 minutes per game helping the Cougars to victory.
Breaking a program record began Onugha's week in grabbing a single game most 26 rebounds, 15 coming in second half action, on top of 17 points in victory over Fort Hays Tech Northwest to break Taylor Regan's 25 board achievement during the 2018-19 season.
Carrying the momentum on the road, Onugha followed with an 18-point, 23-rebound effort to surpass the 20-rebound mark for the sixth time this season helping Barton to a come-from-behind overtime victory at Colby.
Most recently, Onugha recorded her 14th double-double of the season by scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in just 24 minutes of court time in the Cougars' blowout win hosting Independence.
Now 4-7 in league play and 8-9 overall, Barton concludes the first trip around the conference slate on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. tip hosting Coffeyville Community College, a Red Raven squad receiving votes in the latest poll and fresh off its Wednesday victory knocking off 3rd ranked Dodge City.
