The 17th ranked Barton Community College women's basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season by scoring thirty points in Wednesday's opening quarter in going on to roll up Independence Community College at the Barton Gym 88-58.

Leading by twenty points on 61% first quarter shooting, Barton held a twenty-nine point halftime advantage before building out the margin to forty three early in the final period in cruising to the victory.

Barton improves to 3-1 in conference play and 9-1 on the year in dropping Independence to 2-3 in league and 6-5 overall.

Next up for the Cougars is a tough two-game road swing beginning with a 2:00 p.m. tip Saturday at Coffeyville Community College (4-1, 8-3) before a Wednesday 5:30 p.m. tilt at conference leading Cloud County Community College (4-0, 9-1).

Two Cougars had double-double performances led by Brennan Kirchhoff's 16 points and 10 rebounds in recording the 5'4" guard's first of the season and third of her Barton career. Jenny Nkem Womsi, who played just twenty-two minutes in the contest, posted her 7th of the season in tallying 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Rachel Emmanuel added 9 rebounds in thirteen minutes in helping Barton outrebound the Pirates 55-36, 19 coming off the offensive board as Kirchhoff and Womsi combined for ten.

Morgan Meyers tied Kirchhoff for team high scoring with 16 points as Alissa Heskamp and Acorionna Lard each contributing 9 points each while leading with two steals and 5 assists respectively.

D'yanna Maxey and Blesseth Dillingham led Independence with 14 points each with Suni Kartik coming off the bench for 11 points behind 3-of-5 shooting behind the arc.

The Cougars shot over 50% for three of the quarters, a 26% second quarter shooting was the lone drop off but still managed to double up the Pirates in scoring production as Independence suffered an even worse 18.2%. Overall the Cougars finished at 48.4% percent, 7-of-23 from beyond the arc, while defensively allowing a season low 27.4% as the Pirates were just 20-of-73 from the field including 6-of-22 from three-point land.
