Barton women shake off slow start for pull away victory over Mineral Area College #GoBarton

Getting off to a slow start Saturday, the 22nd ranked Barton Community College women's basketball used a dominating second quarter before pulling away for a 74-48 win over Mineral Area College to wind up the BSN Sports Tipoff Classic in Hutchinson with a pair of victories.

Now 3-0 on the early season, Barton will have the next three games on their home court beginning Tuesday hosting Neosho County Community College. The Cougars will then play host to the Best Western/Cougar Booster Club Classic with Redlands Community College on Friday followed by Saturday's game against Labette Community College. A 5:30 p.m. tipoff slated for each of the three contests with live stream audio and video coverage available on the Barton Sports Network found at www.BartonSports.com.

Shooting just 25% in the opening frame, the Cougars would shoot over 44% the remaining thirty minutes including burying a trio of second quarter three-pointers to turn a two point deficit into a twelve point halftime advantage. Barton would go on to tack on seven points to its lead in each of the remaining quarters in dropping MAC to 1-2.

Morgan Meyers led Barton's 47.4% shooting beyond the arc connecting on 4-of-7 for a team high 18 points. Jenny Nkem Womsi added 13 points and Acorionna Lard contributed 10 points and a team leading 5 assists.

Barton held a plus-20 edge on the boards, Womsi and Alissa Heskamp each grabbing 9 rebounds as did Brennan Kirchhoff in falling shy of a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

The Cougars finished at 43.8% overall shooting from the field with MAC only connecting for 27.6% including 7-of-27 shooting beyond the arc.

Lexi McCully led all scorers on the day with 21 points behind 5-of-10 shooting beyond the arc with Audra Pasakarnis the lone other Cardinal in double figures with 10 points.
