The Barton Community College women's basketball team went toe-to-toe for thirty-two minutes Monday night at the Barton Gym but couldn't overcome a bad shooting night as the 20th ranked Grizzlies of Butler Community College pulled away late for a 67-53 victory.

The Cougars grabbed their last lead of the game on Morgan Meyers' three pointer to open up third quarter action to eventually trail by two headed to the final frame. Still trailing by two with 8:13 left, the Cougars fell behind from a decisive 7-0 Butler run in being outscored 19-7 in the quarter.

Concluding the fall portion of the schedule, Barton heads to the break at 3-5 in conference play and 6-8 overall while Butler moves to 7-2 in league and 12-2 on the season.

Barton's next action is Wednesday, January 5, hosting Seward County Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

Cougars shot a season second worst 27% (17-63) mostly from a 14.7% (5-34) shooting night from long range in launching a season high attempts. Butler finished at 37.5% from the field (24-64) and 6-18 (33.3%) from beyond the arc while gaining a 6-point edge in points off turnovers on the plus-3 differential. The teams were nearly identical from the charity stripe, Barton sinking 14-of-18 with Butler making 13-of-18.

Jenny Nkem Womsi led the Cougars recording her fourth straight double-double performance, scoring 15 points with 9-of-11 free throw shooting and hauling in five of her game high 13 rebounds on the offensive glass. Brennan Kirchhoff finished a point shy of matching her career high, scoring 14 points and adding 8 rebounds.

Syncere Harrod's 17 points off the bench, including 8-of-11 from the free throw line, led the Grizzlies while MeKayla Furman added 16 points and a team high 8 rebounds with Jaila Harding adding 11 points.
