Long distance shooting leads Barton women to 71-55 victory over Independence

Striking for nearly 44% beyond the arc Saturday afternoon at the Barton Gym, the Barton Community College women's basketball team picked up their second straight victory by defeating Independence Community College 71-55. Despite shooting just 31% from the field, the Lady Cougars made up the difference shooting over 83% from the charity stripe and getting a combined 9-of-17 long distance shooting from Regan Unruh and Katrina Roenfeldt. The victory improves Barton’s conference mark to 4-3 and 7-4 on the year while dropping Independence to 2-5 and 4-6 on the season. The Lady Cougars have two more games remaining on the pre-Christmas schedule beginning with a Wednesday trip to Dodge City Community College followed by a Saturday date with nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College. Tip-off times slated for 5:30 p.m. for both contests.
