Career highs lead Lady Cougar basketball pulling away for 87-51 win

A number of individual and team high performances helped the Barton Community College women's basketball team pull away Wednesday night at the Barton Gym for an 87-51 victory over the junior varsity squad from Tabor College.   Increasing a four point first quarter lead to twelve by halftime, the Lady Cougars exploded for thirty-five third quarter points going on to the thirty-six point victory.   Barton improves to 3-2 on the season heading into a weekend short trip to Hutchinson for the Hutch Pawn & Jewelry Classic.  The Lady Cougars will play at 1:30 p.m. each day first taking on the junior varsity squad from Central Methodist University on Friday and then Murray State College on Saturday. 

Kilee Harris led four Lady Cougars in double-digit scoring with a career high twenty-five points on 10-of-17 shooting.   including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.  After making just three beyond the arc last season and four through the first four games the season, the sophomore from Protection, Kansas, continues to show off her off-season hard work connecting on a career high five treys on 5-of-9 shooting.  Jalisa Jones also put up a career night as the freshman from Tennessee scored eighteen points and six steals reaching double figures for the fourth time this season while dishing out a team high five assists for the second time.  Sophomore Dominique Baker also set a new high scoring sixteen points coupled with her second straight game of five steals.  Alexus Bryson added eleven while fellow freshman Megan Jirak collected double-digit rebounds for the fourth time this season leading the Lady Cougars with ten boards.

Grabbing a season high twenty-three rebounds and dishing out fifteen assists, the Lady Cougars also posted a season high shooting night connecting for 42.9% from the field including 42.1% from beyond the arc while sinking 76.5% from the charity stripe.

Ali Nakvinda led a balanced Tabor scoring with ten points with Makayla Jacobs nearly posting a double-double with nine points and rebounds.
