Streaks come to an end in Lady Cougars’ loss at Dodge City
All streaks are bound to end and Wednesday night in Dodge City two streaks came to an end in Barton Community College women’s basketball team’s 71-68 loss to Dodge City Community College at the United Wireless Arena. After winning sixteen straight against the Lady Conquistadors, Barton suffered its first loss since March 2, 2005. Additionally, the win by Dodge City is the first conference win against an opponent other than Colby Community College since the 2007 season when they defeated Garden City Community College. Barton drops to 2-8 on the conference season and 12-11 overall while Dodge City improves to 2-8 in conference and 8-16 overall. The Lady Cougars return to the friendly confines of the Barton Gym on Saturday to take on Garden City Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip.
Erin Copeland, who has scored in double-figures for eight straight games, led four Lady Cougars in double-figures with fifteen points. Blair Bloomfield, who posted her fourth double figuring scoring in the last five games, joined Taschell Phillips in scoring thirteen points each. Taylor Mayes, who just missed her first career double-double, pulled down nine rebounds while scoring twelve points. Kailai Brantner led Barton with six assists and five steals while contributing six points.
Kesha Buckner led Dodge City in both scoring and rebounding with her double-double fifteen point ten rebound performance. Kelli Tolar's fourteen points was the lone Lady Conquistador to reach double figures as four other players scored seven or more points.
