Lady Cougars earn second conference victory with 69-53 defeat of Colby
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team did what it needed to do in earning their second conference game of the year defeating Colby Community College 69-53 Wednesday night at the Barton Gym. With the victory Barton improves to 2-4 in conference play and 12-7 overall while keeping Colby winless in conference play at 0-7 and dropping the Lady Trojans to 6-15 overall. The Lady Cougars head to Pratt on Saturday to play Pratt Community College in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena.
Tied at eleven with eleven to play, the Lady Cougars busted the game open with a 17-1 run in the next five minutes. Colby countered with a 10-0 run to cut the lead back to six but an Erin Copeland long range bomb pushed the back to nine with Barton eventually holding a 35-24 halftime advantage.
Colby cut the deficit to three just four minutes into the second half but a 12-1 Barton run in the next six minutes gave the Lady Cougars the separation it needed.
Sophomore Erin Copeland put up a career high eighteen points while dishing out seven assists and four steals. Freshman Ashton Bruner recorded her third double-double of the season with fourteen points and eleven rebounds while also leading the team with five steals. Coming off the bench Blair Bloomfield also had a solid night scoring twelve points and collecting seven rebounds.
Kytiana Seals led three Colby players in double-digits by scoring eighteen while Agnese Aramina and Linda Pagrode contributed fifteen and twelve points respectively.
