Barton women lose at No. 10 Garden City
The Barton Community College women’s basketball team played from behind all night as the Garden City Community College Broncbusters took care of the Lady Cougars 62-44 Wednesday in Garden City. Barton drops to 1-2 in conference and 11-5 overall as the No. 10 ranked Broncbusters improve to 2-1 and 16-1 overall. The Lady Cougars look to get back on the winning track at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Barton Gym against Butler Community College as Barton concludes their four-game seven-day stretch. Butler, who lost a three overtime game to Garden City to open conference play then fell Wednesday night 58-45 to No. 1 Hutchinson, will be seeking their first conference victory as the Grizzlies stand 12-4 on the season.
An Erin Copeland three-pointer and Blair Bloomfield bucket matched Garden City early on but it would be the last time Barton the teams would be tied in the contest. The Lady Cougars held the Busters to 37% shooting but the problem for Barton was they were worse at only 20% and at the short end of a 28-16 rebound disadvantage.
The second half improved for the Lady Cougars in the shooting and rebound department as Barton had a ten point improvement from the first half. However the Barton defense wasn't as solid in the paint in the second frame giving up fourteen points.
Blair Bloomfield was joined by Erin Copeland to lead Barton in scoring with twelve and eleven points respectively. Ashton Bruner led the Lady Cougars in rebounds with eight to go along with seven points all coming in the second half.
Jessica Goble put up doubles to lead the Broncbusters with sixteen points and ten rebounds. Deni Jacobs scored 12 while Tamara Jones finished just shy of a double-double with fifteen rebounds and eight points.
