Cougars roll to win over Colby; earn big road win at Hutch
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team capped off a 2-0 week with an 82-63 win over Colby Saturday night at the Barton Gym. That came after the Cougars won a road tilt at previously Jayhawk West unbeaten Hutchinson Wednesday night, 62-50. The wins improved Barton to 20-2 overall on the season and 6-2 in the West at the halfway point of the conference season for the Cougars. The 2nd time through the conference, Barton will play 5 of 8 games at home. Colby fell to 3-4 in the West and 8-13 overall on the season. Barton will have its bye date Wednesday on the West schedule and will return to action at home Saturday against Pratt at 6 pm.

Highlights
The Cougars looked as if they were going to blow Colby of the gym early in the contest, putting together a 25-0 run early in the game. The Cougars led 8-5 just 2 1/2 minutes into the contest before scoring the next 25 points over 9 minutes of play to take a 33-5 lead on the Trojans. But Colby wouldn't go away, clawing back to within 14 points at one point before trailing just 42-26 at half.
Barton was never pushed in the 2nd half, but also couldn't match that 28-point lead they had a 33-5 either. Colby spent most of the half trailing between 15-20 points before got the lead as high as 26 points with 3 minutes to play.
Inga Muciniece turned in on of her best performances of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. The 19 points were her 2nd highest total of the season the best outing in West play. It was the 13th double-double this year for the 6-5 sophomore and the 26th of her career. Ipek Turkyilmaz added 17, Kristine Silaraja 14 and Courtney Sturdivant 11. Sandra Sormaz kept the Trojans in the game – especially in the opening half – with 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting from behind the 3-point line.
In the win over Hutch, Barton took a 12-point lead to halftime and kept that lead in the 2nd half for the win at then 5-0 Hutch in West play. Sturdivant had 22 points in the win with Silaraja adding 15 and Turkyilmaz 14. Muciniece grabbed 12 rebounds for Barton
