Barton rolls to 3rd win of young season
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team made it 3-0 as the Cougars prepare for a tough weekend of competition at the Barton Classic. The Cougars warmed up for the event with a 98-39 win over the Central Christian JV Tuesday night at the Barton Gym. Barton (3-0) will take on Eastern Oklahoma State and Coffeyville this weekend at the Barton Gym. Coffeyville is ranked No. 22 in the preseason NJCAA poll while Barton is No. 25. Those 2 teams will match up Saturday with the Cougars taking on Eastern Oklahoma Friday.

Highlights
Barton got off to a bit of a slow start Tuesday but picked up the intensity as the game wore on. The Cougars led just 12-7 5 minutes into the contest but scored the game's next 16 points to push it out to a 28-7 lead with just less than 10 minutes to play in the half. The lead reached 34 points at 43-9 and eventually 41 as the Cougars capped a 40-4 run with a Brooke Conley layup with 2 minutes left in the half for a 52-11 lead. Central Christian scored the final 6 points of the half to make it 52-17 at intermission.
Barton's lead steadily grew in the 2nd half until it reached 60 at one point as the Cougars cruised to the 59-point win. Barton placed 5 players in double figures led by sophomores Ipek Turkyilmaz and Jessica Halsig with 19 and 17 points. Turkyilmaz made 5 3-pointers on her way to 19 points while Halsig knocked down 7-of-13 from the field. Turkyilmaz also had 8 steals, 6 assists and 9 rebounds in the win. Inga Muciniece had a big game, scoring 14 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Freshman point guard Courtney Sturdivant also scored 14 for the Cougars with Brooke Conley added 10. The Barton defense limited the Tigers to just 24 percent shooting on the night while Barton converted 42 percent from the field and hit 13 3-pointers. Six different Cougars hit 3-pointers in the win.
