Barton picks up two impressive wins in Shoot Out; moves to 10-2
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team kept its stride over the weekend, rolling to two easy wins at the annual Jayhawk Shoot Out in Coffeyville. Barton defeated its 2 Jayhawk East opponents by an average of 37.5 points a contest in beating 2 teams that brought a combined 13-3 record into the Shoot Out. Barton rolled to a 99-50 win over previously 6-1 Highland midday Friday then captured an 89-63 win over then 7-2 Fort Scott early Sunday afternoon. The wins extend Barton's winning streak to 7 games and improve the Cougars to 10-2 on the season. Barton will have 2 more games this weekend in Moberly, Mo. before taking time off for the Christmas break. The two games in Moberly will also conclude the non conference slate for Barton.

Highlights
In the win over Highland, Barton broke its school record of most 3-pointers in a game that it set earlier this season. The Cougars hit 14 3's in the game, breaking the mark of 13 set against the Tabor JV in November. Barton played the games over the weekend without the services of inside players Gwen Edwards, Tiffany Haggen, and ChrisDell Harris, making the Cougars – with just 8 players – very perimeter oriented. Barton opened the contest by hitting 8-of-22 3-pointers in the 1st half – exactly 1/2 of the 44 shot attempts in the half – in building a 5-28 lead on the Scotties.

The Cougars hit 6-of-12 3's in the 2nd half, hitting 41.2 percent, 2 percent better than inside the arc. Ipek Turkylimaz led the way behind the arc for the Cougars, knocking down 6-of-12 3-pointers for 20 points. That was the 2nd highest mark for a player in a Barton game behind the record of 7 set last year by Victoria Carlile. Andrea Barber scored 22 points behind 3 3-pointers. LaToya Jackson, who also hit 3 treys, completed a guard trio that combined for 63 of the 99 points, with 21 points. Inga Muciniece finished with 12 points. Turkylimaz and Barber had double-doubles in the game with both collected a career-high total in rebounds. Turkylimaz, a freshman, grabbed 11 boards to pace Barton while Barber, sophomore, added 10.

Barton took an early lead on Saturday as well but it wasn't until about 7 had gone in the game when the Cougars picked it up a notch. Barton led just 16-13 on the strength of 4 3-pointers with 13 minutes to play in the half with Fort Scott. Over the next 9 minutes the Cougars outscored the Greyhounds 24-13 to grab a 40-26 lead. Ironically, Barton didn't hit a 3-pointer in the half after those opening 7 minutes as the Cougars took a 46-33 lead to half.

The Cougars came out firing from 3-point land to start the 2nd half, knocking down 3-for-5 in the opening 5 1/2 minutes to push the lead to 61-39. Barton eventually got the lead as high as 30 points in the contest. The Cougar defense held Texas Tech signee Keisha Walker to just 10 points in 23 minutes as the sophomore standout spent nearly all the 1st half on the bench in foul trouble. Jackson, a freshman, scored  a career-high 24 points in the win followed by a career-mark from Turkylimaz of 23. Barber and DePrice Taylor each added 11. Muciniece corralled a career-high 15 rebounds in the win as well and blocked 4 shots.
