Barton women improve to 8-2, run winning streak to 5
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team stayed unbeaten at home this season with an 84-49 win over Carl Albert (Okla) on the final day of the Booster Club Classic at the Barton Gym. The Cougars won the opening night over Eastern Oklahoma as Barton swept its foes from the south. The Cougars beat Eastern Oklahoma, 75-66. Barton is now 8-2 on the season with the Jayhawk Shoot-Out in Coffeyville next on the slate. The Cougars will take on East foes Highland and Fort Scott at the Shoot-Out.

Highlights
Saturday the Cougars played some of its best basketball of the season to start the game, bolting to a 33-14 lead in the opening 10-plus minutes of action. The Cougars couldn't maintain that intensity, however, letting Carl Albert back into the game as the Vikings scored 10 straight to make it 33-24. By halftime, Barton had pushed that lead back to 18 points, leading 47-29. The Cougars hit 53 percent from the floor in the opening half.

Barton continued the onslaught to start the 2nd half, building the lead to 30 points my the midway point of the half and 40 points at 82-42 with 3 minutes to play. Barton put 5 players in double figures, led by Andrea Barber with 16 points and 10 assists to collect her 1st double-double at Barton and post a career-high in assists. LaToya Jackson added 15 points and 9 assists. Ipek Turkylimaz scored 13, Gwen Edwards 12, and Jessica Halsig 10. Edwards has scored in double figures in all 10 Barton games this year.

Friday, the Cougars led the entire game but could never shake the Mountaineers (2-6). Barton jumped to a 13-3 lead on Eastern Oklahoma in the opening minutes of the contest. But 8 straight by the Mountaineers made it 13-11 and the rest of the 1st half was spent with Barton building a double digit lead and Eastern Oklahoma cutting into it. The Cougars finally got some breathing room in the 2nd half, building a 60-39 lead with 10 minutes to play. The Cougars led by double digits the rest of the half until the final margin of 9 points.

Barton scored 34 points off 30 Eastern Oklahoma turnovers in the win. The Cougars were paced by Gwen Edwards with 20 points and Tiffany Haggen with 12. Haggen added 8 boards and Andrea Barber 7 assists in the win.
