Oklahoma All state point guard signs to play for Cougars
The signing period is off and running for Lane Lord and the Barton County Community College basketball team as he replaces 10 sophomores from this year's Region VI Finalist. In fact, it was a class that was instrumental in making back-to-back appearances in the Region VI title game. The Cougars took a big step in replacing those departing sophomores by signing Latoya Jackson, an All-State performer from Oklahoma. Jackson, a point guard for Oklahoma City's Millwood High School.

Jackson was twice named to the Class 3A All-State 1st team, earning those honors as a junior and senior for Millwood. This past season she helped her team to a 21-3 record, losing in a 4-overtime classic in the opening round of the state tournament. She is slated to play in both the Oklahoma Coaches All Start Game in June as well as the Oklahoma All State Game in July.

Barton Coach Lane Lord said Jackson has a good chance to step right in and be the starting point guard for the Cougars next season.

"Latoya is definitely has Division I talent and we expect her to step right in at Barton County and run the show for us," Coach Lord said. "She is an explosive point guard who can shoot the three, penetrate, and finish in transition. She is an outstanding defensive player, but the thing I like the best about her is that she knows how to run a team."

Jackson is coming off a season in which she scored 16.6 points per contest and 5 rebounds a game as well as nearly 4 steals and 4 assist per game. Jackson ranked in the top 5 in the state in both steals and assists. She was also among the state leaders in her class 3-point shooting, field goal shooting, and free throw shooting.

"Latoya has outstanding leadership qualities both on and off the court," Coach Lord said. "Latoya took her team to the Oklahoma State Tournament every year. She earned first Team All State honors this season, leading her team in points per game, assist, steals, field goal and 3-point percentage."

As a junior, Jackson averaged just less than 20 points a contest. She is also a Scholar Athlete, boasting a GPA of 3.5.
