Cougars season ends in Region VI finals for 2nd straight season

The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team made its 1st return trip to the Region VI finals for the 1st time in nearly 20 years, but once again, the Cougars season came to an end there. Barton’s quest for a return trip to the NJCAA Tournament for the 1st time since 2000 will have to wait at least one more year. Barton’s season ended when Colby defeated the Cougars, 67-62, in the Region VI title game Tuesday night at Koch Arena in Wichita. Barton ends its season with a 28-6 record while Colby, 31-3, moves on the to the NJCAA National Tournament for the 1st time in school history. The Cougars 28 wins give Coach Lane Lord 50 wins in his two seasons at the helm of the Cougars. The game was the final contest for 11 sophomores on the Cougars’ roster, 8 of which were playing in their 2nd season at Barton.
