Barton women hand Colby 2nd loss of the season
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team has made its living playing great defense. The Colby Trojans bolted to a 15-1 start with great shooting. When the two collided Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym it was the Cougar defense which got the best of the Trojan offense. Barton frustrated the Trojans offensive attack for a 64-56 Jayhawk West win. The win improved Barton to 2-1 in the West and 12-5 overall while Colby fell to 2-1 and 15-2. The Cougars have a week off before heading to Butler County.

Highlights
Barton limited the Trojans to a meager 32 percent shooting from the field and a 54 points during the contest. Colby entered the game hitting nearly 48 percent from the floor and 38 percent from behind the 3-point line. The Barton defense allowed Colby to hit just 2-of-15 shots from behind the arc for just 13 percent.

The Cougars held a 27-22 halftime lead and built that lead to 15 points at 43-28. The Cougars appeared headed to the win with just 8 minutes left and the lead still at 13 points, 51-38. But the Cougars have seen leads slip away earlier this year and Colby began to rally. The Trojans cut the lead to just 52-50 with still more than 3 minutes to play, but this time the Cougars would not go away.

Barton's Vivian Ewalefo scored 6 straight points on a pair of jumpers and two free throws to lead the Cougars on a 7-0 run and a 59-50 lead with just one minute to play. From there the Cougars coasted to their 2nd straight conference win.

Ewalefo scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Cougars while Brittany Ridley scored 10 points off the bench. The Cougars got 9 rebounds from Sharece Love as well. Colby was led by Rita Kollo with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
