Cougars roll through Colby Ambassador Classic with 3-0 mark
The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team has seem to recover just fine from a difficult night last week. After losing a 16-point lead, the game and their starting point guard last Tuesday, the Cougars rebounded to post a 3-0 mark over the weekend in Colby at the Ambassador Classic. Barton rolled to wins over the Bethany JV (87-45) and Independence (67-45), and then held off Miles (Mont) for a 60-53 win on the final day to post a perfect 3-0 mark and improve to 6-2 on the season. Colby was also perfect at the event. Barton will continue its road trek this weekend when it travels to Coffeyville to battle two more heavyweights in the Coffeyville Classic.

Highlights
Thursday's game marked the 1st time this season the Cougars have not played a nationally ranked or unbeaten team and they made the most of it against the Bethany JV. Barton jumped to a 44-22 lead at halftime and kept up the pace in the 2nd half. Every Cougar played double digits minutes as Barton broke its short 2-game losing skid in resounding fashion. Victoria Carlile recaptured her shooting touch, knocking down 6-of-10 3-pointers on her way to game-high 27 points. Those 6 treys tied a school-record for Carlile, joining Sarah Kendrick, Wendy Okeson, and Corey Norman (3 times) for the most 3-pointers made in a game for Barton. Sunshine Uli added 17 points and 7 rebounds while Brandi Harris tossed in 14 points and dished out 7 assists. Harris also had 6 steals as the Cougars forced the Swedes into 38 turnovers.
Barton battled the coaches pick to finish 2nd in the Jayhawk East this season when they battled Independence Friday afternoon at the Community Building in Colby. The Cougars again jumped out to the lead and never let up on the gas. Barton led 34-22 at halftime and built the lead into the 30's before settling for an impressive 67-45 win over the Pirates. Brittany Ridley paced the way for Barton, scoring a career-high 19 points. Harris added 11 while Sharece Love grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the Cougars. The Barton defense was once again instrumental, forcing the Pirates into 25 turnovers and just 31 percent shooting from the floor.
The Cougars concluded the 3 games in the 3 days stretch at Colby with a 60-53 over Miles. Barton again jumped out on top early as the Cougars grabbed a 37-20 halftime lead on the Pioneers. But Barton began to show signs of playing its 3rd game in 3 days during the 2nd half of action. Miles outscored the Cougars 33-23 during the second 20 minutes but Barton was able to hang on for the win. Carlile again led Barton with 17 points, followed by Trenice Hines with 11 – both coming off the Barton bench, which scored 39 of the Cougars 60 points.
