Barton continues 2nd half struggles in losses at Coffeyville

But 2nd half struggles are starting to become a theme Coach Lane Lord and the Cougars would like to get rid of. The 2nd half woes continued in Coffeyville this past weekend as Barton blew double digits halftime leads twice, losing to host Coffeyville, 77-73 in overtime, and No. 24 ranked Eastern Oklahoma, 72-67, during the Thanksgiving Classic. Barton is now 6-4 for the season and will return to Coffeyville this weekend for the Jayhawk Shoot-Out where the Cougars will play KCK and Neosho.

Highlights
The Cougars came out of the gates quickly in the opener Friday night against host Coffeyville. Barton built a 39-26 halftime lead on the Red Ravens and pushed that lead to as many as 17 points early in the 2nd half. But Coffeyville came storming back to take a 57-56 lead on Barton with still more than 7 minutes to play. The teams traded the lead down the stretch with the Cougars trailing by 2 late in regulation when Vivian Ewalefo tied the score at 67-all on a jumper with 2.9 seconds to play in regulation. But Coffeyville used a 10-6 overtime advantage to earn the win. Ewalefo had 26 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Cougars. Victoria Carlile added 14 points in the loss.
Barton jumped out to a 20-4 lead early Saturday against the No. 24 ranked Mountaineers of Eastern Oklahoma and 28-6. Barton still led in the contest by a 36-25 halftime margin after a 19-2 run by Eastern Oklahoma got them back in the contest. The Cougars led the contest until the 2:28 mark when a 3-pointer by Eastern gave the Mountaineers a 62-60 lead on their way to the 67-62 come-from-behind win. It was the 3rd time in Barton's 4 losses this season the Cougars have held a double-digit lead before losing. Ewalefo again led the Cougars with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Trenice Hines added 13 and Brianna Buchanan 12.
