The Barton County Community College women’s basketball team had a tough conference opener, traveling to No. 2 ranked Seward County after nearly a month off. The result was a 66-40 loss to the defending NJCAA champion Saints.

The Barton County Community College women's basketball team had a tough conference opener, traveling to No. 2 ranked Seward County after nearly a month off. The result was a 66-40 loss to the defending NJCAA champion Saints.
Barton is now 7-8 overall and 0-1 in the Jayhawk West while the Saints are now 15-0 and 1-0. The win was the 114th consecutive home win for Seward County.
Highlights
The Cougars battled with the powerful Saints for much of the first half, leading for a good portion of the half. But the pressure defense of the Saints eventually allowed them to build a 38-16 lead by the intermission and was never challenged after that. The Cougars committed 29 turnovers in the contest.
Barton was led by Briana Harris with 8 points and Ashley Bode with 7. Cassie Cordell scored 13 to lead the Saints.
