Barton’s Alvord and Ingram sweeps KJCCC Week 5 softball awards.
Karter Alvord and Meleia Ingram of the Barton Community College softball team has been named the Week Five Division I KJCCC Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively.
The duo helped Barton open KJCCC play last week with a pair of sweeps over Seward County then Colby improving the Cougars to 7-5 on the season.
Batting .667 with five RBI out of the nine hole, Alvord collected at least two hits in each of the four games. The freshman shortstop began the week 5-of-7 with three RBI, including a double and her first collegiate home run in the sweep over Seward County, then three days later went 5-of-8 at Colby with another double and pair of RBI.
Freshman pitcher Meleia Ingram struck out 19, going 2-0 with a save in recording a decision in three of the Cougars' four conference opening victories last week.
Moving up into the number one starting role following a career high 11 strikeouts the last time on the diamond, Ingram picked up a pair of victories and a save in the Cougars' four outings. The freshman right-hander began the week throwing a two-hit, 8 strikeout game one victory against Seward County before adding another 4 strikeouts in two innings of relief in the back end of the doubleheader earning her second save of the year. On Saturday in Colby, Ingram struck out another 7 batters to get the game one victory improving to 4-2 on the season.
Barton plays today at Garden City Community College before hosting Dodge City Community College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
