The Barton Community College softball team knocked Seward County Community College from the conference unbeatens Wednesday at Cougar Field in salvaging the doubleheader.

Seward County built an eight run lead in the opening contest before the Cougars plated seven to thwart off the run-rule drawing to within one. The Saints would tack one to their lead in the seventh as Barton's comeback fell short with the tying runs on base of the 9-7 defeat.

The Cougars infused revenge in the backend of the doubleheader jumping out to an 8-1 lead by scoring runs in each of its four at-bat frames to knock the Saints from the unbeaten behind a 12-3 run rule contest to salvage the twin bill.

Barton's third straight split after sweeping its conference opener leaves Barton at 5-3 in the KJCCC and 7-9 overall with Seward County leaves Great Bend at 5-1 and 9-9 on the season.

The Cougars head to Garden City Community College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader before Tuesday's 1:00 p.m. hosting of Cowley College.

Brooklynn Angielski took the game one loss working just 2.1 innings but bounced back to retake the game two circle in striking out five improving to 5-5 on the year.

Barton outhit the Saints by three on the day led by the 4-of-7 and 3RBI effort from Allyson McDougal which included three doubles in the nightcap.

Laci Dryden set the top of the lineup with three hits, two walks, and swiped three bases with Leslie Ramos driving in a team high four runs, three coming on her first home run of the season continuing the Cougars surge of seven runs in the game one fifth inning.

Aly Lawrence and Mia Mascarenas each collected three hits as the duo's consecutive connections began the opener's fifth inning as Barton sent twelve to the plate erasing the eight run deficit.

Joining Ramos in exceeding the fence barrier for the first time this season, Lani Dryden's solo shot leading off the third frame of game two pushed the Cougars' lead to a then 10-0.
