Barton's Morgan named conference and national Pitcher of the Week #GoBarton

Barton Softball Jessica Morgan - KJCCC and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week

Jessica Morgan of the Barton Community College softball team has been named the KJCCC and NJCAA Division I Pitcher of the Week following her performances during the week of March 20.

The sophomore from Lewistown, Montana, struck out eleven or more in three outings last week to win her seventh straight improving to 7-2 on the year.

Entering in relief duties during Monday's first inning of game one versus Hesston, the Fergus High School graduate struck out three in the frame before going on to scatter five hits in finishing with eleven strikeouts to earn the victory.

Wednesday Morgan picked up the game two victory over Dodge City in matching her season high eleven strikeouts in scattering three hits then on Saturday versus Northwest Tech, struck out a new season best 12 in the five-inning two-hitter.

On the week, Morgan struck out 34, scattered ten hits, surrendered just two walks and two earned runs in the 17 innings pitched while going 3-of-6 from the plate with three RBIs and her first home run of the season coming on a fourth inning two-run shot.

A two-time conference award winner this season, Morgan ranks third in the league with a 3.02 ERA and 9.47 strikeouts per seven innings, fanning 69 batters in 51.0 innings of work.

Morgan and the Cougars are now 13-3 in conference play and 20-13 overall following today's five inning run-rule sweep hosting Garden City Community College.

Barton's next contest is Saturday at Seward County Community College with their next home date coming next Wednesday in a 1:00 p.m. hosting of Pratt Community College.
