Cougar softball splits twin bill with Cowley #GoBarton

The Barton Community College softball team shook off a game one 6-1 loss Monday at Cougar Field in salvaging the non-conference twin bill 8-3 over Cowley College.

Locked at one into the sixth frame of the opener, the Tigers plated four in the inning to break away despite ten Cougar pitching strikeouts. Barton avenged the defeat in the nightcap by taking the lead in the fourth before sending five across the dish in the sixth to pull away earning the split.

The day's results leave Barton at 18-13 while the Tigers moved to 15-12.

Barton completes its three-date home stand on Wednesday in returning to conference play with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch hosting Garden City Community College.

Jenna Henderson matched her career high 7 strikeouts in the opener, scattering four hits through the first five innings until the Tigers broke through with two runs in the sixth chasing her from the contest in dropping to 3-8 on the year.

Sydni Williams improved to 3-1 in her sophomore campaign, earning the game two win by scattering eight hits and striking out four.

Offensively, Jaysa Anderson extended her consecutive game with a hit to 24 straight, leading off the opener's fifth with a single in scoring Barton's lone run before helping to continue the Cougars' five run sixth in the nightcap with an RBI double.

Barton outhit the Tigers 17-15 in the two games, Henderson leading with a 3-of-5 total with a pair of doubles, joined in hits by Kayden Smith's 3-of-7. Lani Dryden led the team with a .667 average from the lower part of the lineup,

Leadoff batter Halie Stoneking bounced back from having her 18-game consecutive hit streak snapped, lacing a single and later scoring the first run of the contest then putting the Cougars ahead for good on a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.
