The Barton Community College softball team fell twice in Tuesday's KJCCC matchup against Colby Community College. The Cougars dropped the opener 6-1 before coming up on the short end of the stick in game two falling 8-7.

Barton falls to 4-14 on the year and 0-4 in the Jayhawk while the Trojans improve to 11-7 overall and 3-1 in league play. The Cougars will look to bounce back Saturday on the road at Seward County Community College with a first pitch doubleheader slated for 1:00 p.m.

Game One – Colby 6, Barton 1
The Cougars lone run of the contest came in the first frame as Kennedee Lara's leadoff double eventually scored after a Madison Faylor sacrifice fly to center.

Barton stranded two baserunners in the game behind three hits with Faylor and Jaycee Patton joining Lara in the hit column.

Colby worked some magic in the top of the first with back-to-back RBI hits.

The Trojans added a run in the second before breaking through in the later innings with one in the fifth and two in the top of the seventh.

Starter Kayla Beers tallied a career high seven strikeouts in the effort.

Game Two – Colby 8, Barton 7
Things started out similar in the nightcap as Colby accounted for a pair in the opening inning while the Barton bats remained in check by the Trojan pitching through the first two innings.

Freshman Bailie Stanley delivered the first baserunner for the Cougars with a leadoff single in the third followed by a Lexi Dryden walk and Lara single loaded the bases. Barton grasped their first lead of the day at 3-2, succeeding Kayli Dryden's sacrifice fly and back-to-back RBI singles from Faylor and Teegan Krol.

Barton tacked on an insurance run in the fourth on Lara's RBI groundout after a pair of Colby walks and hit batsman plagued the Trojans.

A Cougar miscue on defense in the fifth proved costly as Colby plated three following back-to-back doubles reclaiming the lead at 5-4.

Looking to counter back in the home half of the fifth, Barton took advantage of the lone Trojan error as a Patton sacrifice fly brought in the tying run.

A carbon copy from the fifth carried over with the Trojans to the sixth taking advantage of a leadoff single and Barton miscue striking for three more.

Looking for one last rally attempt the Cougars made it interesting trimming the deficit to one following RBI's from Faylor and Patton however the Barton comeback fell short stranding the tying run at third dropping game two 8-7.

Faylor and Stanley recorded the lone multi-hit performances each finishing 2-for-3. Faylor and Patton rounded out the multi RBI performances each driving home two.
