Cougar Softball drops pair at Cowley #GoBarton

Barton Softball result at Cowley College

The Barton Community College softball team dropped a pair of contests Sunday afternoon against Cowley College falling in game one 18-2 in five innings before a late rally in game two fell just short 5-4.

The Cougars fall to 4-13 on the year while the Tigers improve their season mark to 7-5 overall. Barton's next time out comes on the road Thursday afternoon as the Cougars open conference play against Hutchinson Community College with a doubleheader slated for 2:00 p.m. from Fun Valley Sports Complex.

Game One – Cowley 18, Barton 2
In the opener, the strike zone was unfriendly to the Cougars as Cowley took advantage of 10 walks and a pair of homeruns helping lead to an 18-2 game one victory.

Barton managed four of their five walks in the third inning leading to their lone runs of the contest on a bases loaded RBI single by Halie Stoneking and RBI base on balls from Brooke McCollough.

Game Two – Cowley 5, Barton 4
Found in a 4-0 hole following a first inning Tiger grand slam, Barton starter Kayla Beers settled in surrendering just one run over the final five frames. Managing runners to reach base in all seven innings the Cougar bats struggled to produce the timely hit stranding five base runners in the nightcap.

Barton clipped the deficit in half after two and half-innings before the eventual decisive run came across the plate in the bottom of the third.

Looking to mount a late surge the Cougars manufactured a pair of runs with a 2-out rally in the top of the fifth pulling to within one at 5-4. The late comeback bid came up empty, as the Barton bats could not produce the timely hit stranding two of their five in the sixth and seventh innings.
