Wood and Didion sweep Conference weekly awards

Leading the No. 9 ranked Barton Community College softball team to a regular season sweep at Pratt Community College, Brittany Wood and Madison Didion garnered the final weekly awards earning the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors.   Earning her second honor of the season, Wood was joined by Didion's seventh pitching award giving the Lady Cougars fifteen combined awards this season.   Now 48-6 on the year, the second seeded Lady Cougars will begin their title defense in Tuesday at East Park in El Dorado in a 5:00 p.m. matchup against Garden City Community College.

Wood ended her regular season just like she began her freshman campaign, hot at the plate batting .667 on the week with a 1.667 slugging percentage leading Barton to victory over the Beavers in its lone two games of the week.  The Utah native belted the first of two home runs on the day with a two-run shot for the game one winner then drove in the nightcap game winner on her first of four runs batted in.  Wood's two home runs bring her season total to a nation's thirteenth best eighteen, ranking third in school history, with her six RBIs giving her a nation's fifth best eighty-six inching to within eight of the school single season record.

Didion was solid in the circle pitching the full seven innings allowing just four hits earning the 4-2 game one victory over Pratt.  Striking out eight, none came larger than erasing a bases loaded one-out threat with two consecutive punch outs protecting the 4-2 win.   Improving to 25-3 on the season, the Washington freshman moved into the second spot on the school strikeout chart with 202 ranking eleventh in the nation while carrying a nation's eighth best 8.64 strikeout per game ratio.
