Schofield earns second conference weekly honor, Barton Softball garners its twelfth award this season

Setting the table for the No. 10 ranked Barton Community College softball team, freshman Maddison Schofield earned her second Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Softball Player of the Week honor.  Sharing the award with Seward County Community College's Venice Batts, Schofield's selection is the twelfth weekly conference honor for the Lady Cougars this season.   Going 3-1 last week including two wins at Seward County, Barton will next travel to Colby Community College on Friday for a pivotal Jayhawk Conference matchup.

Batting .500 on the week with a .563 on-base percentage, the Perth, Australia, freshman collected multi-hit games in three of the four contests including a double in each game.  Finishing with six extra-base hits including two home runs, Schofield also drove in five runs from the leadoff position while drawing two walks and stealing two bases to rank in the top fifty of NJCAA Division I softball.   For the season Schofield leads the Lady Cougars in hits, doubles, runs, batting average, and on-base percentage for the nation's second best run producing team.

Sandwiched two games behind Butler Community College and two ahead of third place Colby, the Lady Cougars control its destiny for chasing a conference championship with four opponents remaining in the season.   Barton will begin the trek on Friday with the 2:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Trojans with additional road games at Garden City and Pratt looming before a potential showdown at Butler left to conclude the regular season.
