For the fifth time this season, members of the No. 7 ranked Barton Community College softball team swept the conference weekly honors as Holly Posegate and Madison Didion were named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week. The accomplishment marked the eleventh selection for the Cougars on the season as the duo's performances helped the Cougars to six victories including a sweep of two conference opponents improving to 9-1 in conference play and 38-2 on the season. Barton's next test is a key conference battle on Wednesday as the Cougars travel to No. 8 ranked Butler Community College for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader. The two teams split the earlier meeting in Great Bend with the Cougars on the top side of a 4-2 game one victory before the Grizzlies took the back end of the twin bill 9-1 in six innings.
Earning her second honor of the season, Posegate helped Barton to victories as a pitcher with three wins and as a player batting .556 with a 1.000 slugging percentage driving in at least one run in all but one of the Cougars' games last week. The Loveland, Colorado, sophomore began the week with a 4-of-6 performance sparking game one's victory breaking a tie with a leadoff double eventually scoring the game winner, then capping the doubleheader sweep with a two-run homerun icing the victory. Posegate also drove in a game winner and had a two-run homerun against Garden City before finished her week driving in the tying run and scoring the game winner in Barton's tightest game of the week.
The nation's No. 5 strikeout leader, Didion struck out twenty-four batters in 17.0 innings of work earning three victories improving to 20-1 on the season. Equally if not more impressive from the Montesano, Washington, freshman's outings was keeping the runs against at a minimum despite battling a pitcher's nightmare of a sustained 20-30mph wind blowing out to left field all week. Starting her week with an eight strikeout performance in five innings on Monday, Didion threw a two-hit five strikeout midweek game before striking out eleven in the tightly contested two-run victory on Friday.
