Cougars pick up two wins over Bacone

The Barton Community College softball team picked up a pair of wins Wednesday in Muskogee, Oklahoma, defeating the junior varsity squad of Bacone College 7-0 and 12-2.  Improving to 8-1 on the season the Cougars will wrap up their two day swing into Oklahoma with another doubleheader Thursday against the junior varsity squad of Oklahoma Wesleyan University in a 1:00 p.m. first pitch in Bartlesville.

Reigning conference pitcher of the week Madison Didion shut down Bacone in the first game scattering five hits while striking out seven with no walks in going the distance.  Pounding out fifteen hits in the game, the Cougars Jayden Gonzales and Payton Summers led the way with three each including Summers' RBI single in the seventh contributing to Barton's three run seventh to ice the game.

In game two, Barton exploded for an eight run second inning behind the grand slam of Gonzales then later put the game away on a two-run homer off the bat of reigning conference player of the week Brittany Wood for her sixth of the season.  Holly Posegate turned in the second masterful day of Barton pitching running her sophomore campaign in the center circle to 4-0 shutting out Bacone for four innings of work scattering only two hits and striking out five with no walks.  Megan Sumonja worked the final inning surrendering a leadoff homerun to break up the shutout and later an unearned two-out run.
