Barton softball back on winning track with doubleheader sweep in Manhattan

The Barton community College softball team scored seven runs in each of the first two innings to record two run-rule victories Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas, against the Kansas State University Club team.  The Lady Cougars scored one in the first and two in the second of game one to win 10-0 in five innings then followed with a six run first and two run second to run away with a 17-1 win in five innings.  Barton improves to 15-11 on the season while dropping KSU to 0-5 on their young season.   With the cancellation of Sunday's home game against McPherson College junior varsity, the Lady Cougars have added Bethany College's junior varsity to the schedule for Monday traveling to Lindsborg, Kansas, for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader.

Emilia Davies and Allison Smith had big days at the plate for Barton as each had five hits in a combined 10-13 effort.  Barton pounded out thirty hits in the doubleheader batting .448 as a team.  Smith and Erica Harper led the team's twenty-four RBIs with four each as eleven different players drove in one or more runs.

Ashlyn Osborne improved to 8-4 on the season getting the win in game one scattering three hits and striking out four.  Jaelyn Monhollon was just as impressive in game two giving up only three hits and striking out five to improve to 7-6 on the season.
