Davies named conference player of week, becomes second Barton Softball player to win weekly award

For the second time this season a Barton Community College softball player has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Verizon Wireless Softball Player of the Week.  Emilia Davies joins teammate Ashlyn Osborne to receive the honor this season after batting .688 last week going 11-16 with seven RBIs.  Despite a rough week for the Cougar team overall, Davies blasted two home runs in the Lady Cougars 10-9 loss to Garden City last Wednesday then hit three doubles in Friday's game against the Kansas Wesleyan University junior varsity to give the sophomore from Colorado seven extra-base hits in sixteen at-bats.  The week's effort also raised Davies' average from .364 to .437 (31-71) while leading the team in runs, doubles, triples, and total bases and ranks in the top three in most other offensive categories for the Lady Cougars.

Barton is enjoying one of their best seasons in recent memory jumping out to a 12-8 start to the season under first year head coach Marc Benjamin. The Lady Cougars resume conference action Wednesday taking on No. 1 ranked Butler Community College.  Barton, 2-4 in conference play, travels to El Dorado to take on the 14-3 Grizzlies who stand atop the Jayhawk standings at 2-0 in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader at East Park.
