Fourteen extra base hits lift Cougars to twinbill sweep over Brown Mackie

The Barton Community College softball team christened Cougar Field under first year head coach Marc Benjamin in impressive fashion Tuesday sweeping the doubleheader against Brown Mackie College.  The Cougars won by identical 9-1 sixth inning scores to even their season mark to 2-2, while dropping Brown Mackie to 0-2 to start the season.  Barton will head to Chanute, Kansas, for a pair of games on Thursday before returning home for a doubleheader on Saturday against Hutchinson Community College.

Sophomore Ashlyn Osborne continued her torrid start to the season reaching base each time at bat this season, going 5-for-5 on Tuesday with three doubles and four RBI to go along with one walk.  Osborne also picked up the game two victory from the circle striking out eleven while scattering four hits and walking seven.

Freshman Candace Bollig also had a monster day going 5-for-7 including a double, triple, and a two-out two RBI blast to left center.   Fellow Ellis High School graduate Bailey Hensley was solid in the leadoff position going 4-of-7 including a RBI single in the sixth inning of game one. Great Bend's Stephanie Morrison went 2-for-3 getting her first hit as a Cougar, lacing an RBI double down the left field line to give Barton a 1-0 lead in game two.  

Barton batted .439 in the twinbill, with fourteen extra base hits.  The Cougars struck for twelve doubles, a triple, a homerun, and drove in sixteen runs.  The pitching duo of Monhollon and Osborne controlled the Brown Mackie bats most of the day combining for eight hits and inducing 16 strikeouts.
