Barton picks up much-needed sweep of Brown Mackie
The Barton County Community College softball team got a dose of just what the doctor order Tuesday afternoon in Salina – a sweep. The Cougars have lost some tough contest early in the year but broke the bats loose for a 9-1, 17-2 sweep of Brown Mackie in District C action. The win moves Barton to 4-13 for the season and 2-0 in District play. Barton will host Seward County today in a 2 pm start in Jayhawk West action, where Barton is 2-0 as well.



Highlights
After scoring just 6 runs in 8 games in Texas over Spring Break, Barton broke free for the 26-run, 31-hit outburst in the two games in Salina. Barton scored in every inning in the opening game, ending the contest in 5 innings that to the run rule. Ruby Garza and Kalesha Bownes each provided 2 hits and 3 RBI in the win. Karina Ramirez picked up the win for Barton, allowing just 4 hits and the 1 run.

The bats just continued to get hotter as the day went along for Barton. In the 2nd game the Cougars pounded out 22 hits and 17 runs in 5 innings of work again. Bownes and Ashlee Earley each had four hits in the win while Taylor Gorjiyan added 3 hits and 3 RBI. Vanessa Roy added 3 RBI as well for the Cougars. Tiffany Sallee picked up the win for Barton on the mound.
