Hitting woes hamper Cougar softball team
The Barton County Community College softball team is finding out that a lack of hitting makes winning very difficult. The Cougars continued their struggles hitting during their Spring Break Trip, coming home with an 0-8 mark with doubleheader losses to Texas schools Galveston (twice), Alvin, and Blinn. The Cougars are now 2-13 for the season but both wins having in Jayhawk West play where the Cougars are 2-0.

Highlights
Barton scored just 6 runs in the 8 games, putting 3 on the board in the 2nd game of the trip, which was a tough 4-3 loss to Galveston in 8 innings. During that contest, the Cougars scored 3 times in the 2nd inning to grab a 3-0 on Galveston. Karina Ramirez keyed the inning with a 2-run double scoring Megan Suiter and Ashlee Earley. Earley also had an RBI in the inning driving in Amanda Baker. Gavleston scored twice in the 4th and once in the 6th to tie the game before winning in 8 innings by the 4-3 margin. Barton lost 5-0 to Galveston to start the trip and fell 2-1 and 4-0 the next day in a doubleheader.

From there the Cougars went to Alvin College, where they lost a twinbill without scoring, 7-0 and 2-0. Perhaps the most heart-breaking loss came against Blinn on the final day of the trip. Barton led Blinn, ranked No. 9 in the NJCAA Top 20, 1-0 heading into the final inning. Barton had taken the 1-0 lead when Ramirez grounded out to 2nd, scoring Yeakley from 3rd. Krista Casey did the rest on the mound holding Blinn scoreless through six. But in that final inning Blinn scored 2 runs to rally for the win.
