Cougars move into 1st place in West with sweep at Cloud County
The Barton County Community College softball team has quietly put itself in 1st place in the Jayhawk West after winning a pair of road games in Concordia Wednesday, defeating Cloud County 1-0 in 9 innings and 12-1 in 5 innings. The wins give Barton an 8-2 record in the West, percentage points ahead of Pratt, who is now 9-3. Barton is now 16-19 overall but the Cougars are 14-5 since returning from their Spring Break trip. The wins moved Barton to 9-2 and in 2nd place in the all-important District C, which determines the playoff seeding. Cloud County fell to 4-10 in the West and 14-21 overall. The Thunderbirds are 4-7 in District C.

Highlights
The Cougars had to go extra innings to pick up the win in the opener. After the two teams fought to a scoreless tie after 7 innings, the international tiebreaker was in place for the extra sessions. Neither team was able to score in the 8th and Barton finally got the lead in the 9th when Ruby Garza drove in Martysha Mosley with a sacrifice fly. Barton then got out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 9th to preserve the win.

The Cougars had an easier time in the nightcap, rolling to the win in just 5 innings of work by the run-rule, 12-1. The Cougars have now won 6 straight Jayhawk West games.
