Barton sweeps Cloud County in Jayhawk West play
The Barton County Community College softball team swept Cloud County Tuesday afternoon in a pair of Jayhawk West and District C games at Cougar Fields. Barton won the opener 4-1 then shutout the Thunderbirds in the nightcap by an 8-0 score.

The Cougars are now 23-27 overall and an even 7-7 in the West. Barton is 6-5 in District play. Cloud County is now 16-23 overall, 3-13 in the West and 5-6 in District C.

Highlights
The Cougars received two good pitching performances during the day with Erin Morin winning the opener and Karina Ramirez and Karalea Closson combining for the shutout in the nightcap.

Morin worked through the first 5 innings without giving up a run as Barton built a 4-0 lead on the T-Birds. Ashley Muck gave Barton a 2-0 lead in the 2nd when she singled in Erin Morin and Taylor Gorjiyan. The lead grew to 3-0 in the 4th on a Karina Ramirez double that scored Maggie McCoy. A McCoy single in the 5th scored Ruby Garza to push the lead to 4-0, more than enough for Morin. The lone run Morin gave up was in the 6th when the T-Birds plated an unearned run. Morin struck out 9 and walked just 1 in her complete game win.

In the second, the Cougars made quicker work of the T-Birds, winning in just 5 innings of work. After an unearned run in the opening inning, the Cougars scored 5 times in the 3rd to take control. Megan Suiter and Morin each had RBI singles in the inning and McCoy drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-0. Much singled in two runs to give Barton a 6-0 lead. Two more unearned runs in the bottom of the 5th gave the Cougars the win. The game ended when Muck scored on a passed ball with one out. Ramirez pitched the first 3 innings to collect the win for the Cougars.
